Several years ago, we went to pick up one of our daughters from camp. We were told that the band that had been performing during camp was doing one more show for everyone.
When this band took the stage and started to perform, you could feel the energy they brought out in the crowd. They interacted with the audience during their performance. Between songs they spoke with such passion and in a way that they connected with everyone.
Their sound was amazing. Lead vocals, (I later found out his name was David Frey), were awesome. They were a christian band, but their sound was not the typical christian band sound.
After the show, I had a chance to chat with Dave. My impression of him? A big, sweet teddy bear with a passion for Christ and his music.
At this point I found out some basic info. The band was called Sidewalk Prophets. They had their start when Ben McDonald (rhythm guitar) and Dave were attending Anderson University in Indiana. They were doing all they could to get their music out there.
I picked up one of their CDs and hoped to have the chance to hear them perform again.
Hear them again? I did!
Before I knew it they started popping up on the radio. They started being a part of tours; such as the Rock and Worship Roadshow and Winter Jam. They toured with artists such as Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns (on their Thrive Tour).
Just a few years ago, they performed a show locally. I once again found myself in the audience. They had come a long way since that day I saw them perform at the camp. They were still engaging, knew how to interact and move the audience, and the music was still amazing.
For 2015, Sidewalk Prophets are doing a Great Big Family Room Tour. Tickets are $10.00. You can check the page for dates and locations.
Along with those tour dates, you can see where else they are performing on the Tour page.
