duh, duh, DUH, .. duh, duh, Deduh, .. duh, duh, duh, duh deh
You are going to join a rock band. You know you are going to be a star. You can already hear the crowds going wild when you pick up your electric guitar. You just know you are going to set it on fire!
duh, duh, DUH, .. duh, duh, Deduh, .. duh, duh, duh, duh deh ….
You play it again and again…
duh, duh, DUH, .. duh, duh, Deduh, .. duh, duh, duh, duh deh
Then of course, there is that minute or two of “Stairway to Heaven” that your buddy taught you.
Everyone that hears you play it can tell it’s “Stairway to Heaven“. They also recognize your persistent duh, duh, DUH, .. duh, duh, Deduh, .. duh, duh, duh, duh deh as “Smoke On the Water“!
It’s because you got skills, right? Well….
Let’s have show of hands. Who can play those several seconds to a minute or so of “Stairway to Heaven” or “Smoke On the Water“? Uh huh, quite a few of you.
A large number of people who have ever tried to play a guitar, especially electric guitar, have learned those exact things. Yes, I am sitting here holding up my hand as part of that crowd! 🙂
There are many who go further and actually learn more than just an intro or little piece of them. For some reason, it seems like most people who want to play guitar end up learning one or both of these two songs or a part of them. More times than not, at least in the past many years, one of these songs has been the first thing most people learned to play. I’m not sure why. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Deep Purple‘s “Smoke On The Water” and Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway To Heaven“. I just don’t know why it’s always these two songs.
I look back to when I did my share of duh, duh, DUH, .. duh, duh, Deduh, .. duh, duh, duh, duh deh and that little piece of Stairway To Heaven” and have to laugh. Oh, my young days, full of dreams! 🙂
Although I have always loved music, I have to admit I do not have a musical bone in my body. Oh I tried, like so many others. Many years ago, I accepted that I was not cut out to play music. I’m sure my guitar (and anyone who suffered being within earshot of my attempts) appreciated my acceptance of this fact! 😉
I have a guitar, but I will never be a rock star. I will leave that to those who actually have the talent!
wow, awesome article post. Ocon
